So I've been avoiding Haiti commentary...one of those things were if I'm so moved in certain ways about something I just don't even wanna talk about it. Also not sure what spin I was gonna take is discussing how a lot of things that are played/playing out. Should I be sympathetic, cynical, sarcastic, hopeless... so I've just not said anything. And then I happened on We are the World 25... now when it opened with Jamie Foxx...I was like oh gosh... this is gonna be some cheesy ass shit... but then the song came on and all the singing started...and it just came out...tears...goosebumps...i turned into a little crying girl...
wtf pms much?
I still don't know what to say...
mostly I just get really angry as some ways it's manifested in mainstream culture and turned into marketing and consumerist agenda. I have to say is... we should support not just haiti but pay attention to hella shit going on in our neighborhood...hometowns and around the world. I have criticisms of big corporations and organizations (i.e. red cross)... the general intent seems good... but how does your $50 donation to the cause really play out in terms of the cause you think you're supporting.
anyways back to the video. it was good. I have no hating comments...it made me cry. did it's job...
Here are some organizations that I think are pretty good with regards to being focused in Haiti
• Grassroots International; www.grassrootsonline.org
• Partners in Health; www.standwithhaiti.org
• Haiti Emergency Relief Fund; http://haitiaction.net/About/
• Global Fund for Children; www.globalfundforchildren.org
• Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees and Lakou Radio via the North Star Fund;https://npo.networkforgood.
